combining avantgarde improvisational music with the tools of bigband music, the pascal klewer bigband, based in cologne, has made their mark on the european jazzscene since 2017, having worked with peter brötzmann, evan parker, kit downes, christopher dell, christian lillinger, niels klein, pablo held and kathrin pechlof.

their unique sound is shaped by some of the most prolific young german jazz musicians, such as felix hauptmann (cologne jazz award 2022), felix henkelhausen (nominated german jazz award bassist of the year 2022) fabian dudek (cologne jazz award 2022) and kira linn (linntett), paired with the compositions and arrangements by the leader pascal klewer, whose incentive is to write music that fits specifically to each musicians uniques sound.

in this live album, recorded live for deutschlandfunk in november 2021 at their musical home, the renommated loft köln, they present a two-part suite, that ranges from polyrhythmic beats and twelve-tone uptempo swing to energetic free jazz outbursts and soft melodies.

klewer himself (born 1997) has been anchored in the cologne scene for several years, be it through self-curated festivals (222 festival), interactive art exhibitions (now I get why people kill themselves), concert series (pascal klewer bigband meets, monday meetings (co-curator) ), his own ensembles (pascal klewer bigband, theconsistencyofdestruction) and his own label stsIsts records.
he is a scholarship holder of the bartels foundation (2022) and the kunststiftung nrw (2023), worked as a guest conductor for the wdr bigband, composes film music for the ARD and is a laureate of the composition award of the german federal jazz orchestra, the state of hessen and the neuer deutscher jazzpreis für komposition.
