as a composer i spend most of the time on the piano, although being a non-classical-trained pianist. my approach to the instrument changes with my process simultaneously with the process of the approach towards my actual instrument, the trumpet. my dear friend and amazing musician leif berger once told in an interview (I hope I´m not misphrasing), that he is still the same artist/musician, no matter the instrument (although he is actually also a trained pianist).

during my residency in basel at stiftung bartels, made possible by rainer bartels and christopher dell, i had the possibility to record a week on a very beautiful grand piano. i used most of the time recording alternative indie/pop-sketches, but each morning and each night i started/finished with experimenting with layers.
due to experimenting with different filter/layer techniques in vocal recording, i tried out multi-layering and playing with filters on closed-headphones on the piano as well.

pigeon-livered is based on a composition originally for my quintet "theconsistencyofdestruction", although here playing around with septuplet/quintuplet/ninetuplet swing feels within in the language provided.

canoli is an overtone-research tune, playing the piano through those filters but still having the normal touch of the instrument was a very fun and trippy experience.

for on kawara is a song form, that i never found the right words too and it seems to fit right within this odd mix.

? is i think a pretty good 4-minute summary of my musical language.
